In the past few days I have learned that I have a brain tumor that needs to be removed. I have been told that this is going to happen in the next few days. It has been three years since I had surgery for breast cancer, and the tumors have grown back. I will be going through the entire process with the doctor, and I will be doing all of my own research and research my doctors.
It is a sad thing that many people don’t seem to have a full understanding of what cancer is, but the fact is that the tumors that have come back are even more dangerous than the primary cancer. People can get cancer at any point in your life, but you would have to be very unlucky to develop the disease. In fact, cancer is such a serious condition that it is the leading cause of death for people under the age of 65 in the United States.
Cancer is a disease that can appear in many different forms, and it is estimated that only one in four cancers would be classified as curable. The first step in dealing with a cancerous tumor is to remove it. In order to do that, the physician will first examine your tumor and decide whether it is cancerous or not. If it is cancerous, there are two main ways that you can treat it.
Options include the use of radiation and chemotherapy. The first and most common way to treat cancer is by surgical removal of the tumor and then the removal of the surrounding healthy tissue. This is known as a surgical procedure. Another method that can be used in addition to the surgical removal of cancerous tissue is with the use of radiation. In this method, the surgeon will insert a device into your body called a radiation apparatus. This apparatus will emit a beam of radiation, which will destroy cancerous cells.
There are several types of these radiation apparatus, and we’ll be talking a lot about radiation today. But this device we’ll be talking about is called the Linac, which is an accelerator-based device. In this method, a physician or radiation oncologist will insert a tube called a linac to deliver radiation to you. The tube will emit a beam of radiation, and the radiation will destroy cancerous cells.
So much for the original idea that radiation (like a laser) can treat cancer. The fact that radiation is oncology will give cancer patients the confidence to seek treatment. If a linac can kill cancerous cells, then we can expect that a linac, which emits radiation, will kill cancerous cells, too.
The linac is a new type of radiation therapy that uses X-rays. This is different from a traditional radiation treatment in that it uses X-rays to expose cancerous cells to ionizing radiation. This means that the radiation will not only destroy cancerous cells, but also damage surrounding healthy cells. I’m not sure how this works in practice, but I imagine that using this type of therapy will help patients with cancerous cells better adapt to their new surroundings.
This is a good thing.
